Manitoba Kids Encouraged to Collect Used Batteries

June 7, 2016 10:37 AM | News

Call2RecycleA province-wide initiative to collect batteries for the purpose of recycling them is encouraging all Manitoba schools to hop on board.

Take Pride Winnipeg! has partnered with Call2Recycle Canada for the Back-to-School Battery Contest, which will award $1,500 to the top school that collects the most batteries.

“We hope that every school in Manitoba signs up to enter the campaign which will not only educate and inform children about the importance of recycling batteries, but will also nurture community spirit by bringing together school staff, communities and youth in a common cause,” said Joe Zenobio, executive director of Call2Recycle Canada Inc.

Three other schools who demonstrate exceptional efforts and battery recycling displays will win three additional donations of $500 each.

All Manitoba schools can register until the end of June. Throughout the summer, children will be encouraged to collect used household batteries under 5 kg and take them back to participating schools in September to help their schools win the grand prizes.
