A high-speed traffic pursuit that began with a stolen vehicle in St. Vital ended with the vehicle hitting the ditch in south Winnipeg on Thursday morning.
Police attempted to stop a Ford Raptor pickup truck at around 5:30 a.m. in the area of St. Mary’s Road and Warde Avenue. The driver sped off toward the Perimeter Highway in a westbound direction, reaching speeds of about 170 km/h while heading eastbound on McGillivray Boulevard from the Perimeter.
Police deployed multiple tire deflation devices to attempt to stop the vehicle, which was heading eastbound at times into oncoming traffic.
The Raptor clipped another vehicle before coming to a stop in a ditch near Kenaston Boulevard and McGillivary Boulevard.
A 20-year-old man faces multiple charges, including impaired driving. Additional charges are pending.
