A 17-year-old boy is in police custody after driving a stolen Ford F-350 pickup truck into the Red River.
Police began their pursuit at around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Dugald Road and Panet Road. Officers discovered the vehicle had been stolen from the Windsor Park area.
Attempts to stop the truck safely failed when the driver fled at a high rate of speed. He eventually abandoned the truck when it was partially submerged in the Red River at a dead end on Tache Avenue near Whittier Park.
The teen was tracked down by the canine unit on the riverbank and arrested.
He faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of mischief over $5,000, flight from police and two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The teen remains in police custody.
