Winnipeg Girl, 5, Drowns After Canoe Capsizes in Churchill

RCMP Crest LogoA five-year-old Winnipeg girl has drowned after the canoe she was in capsized in Churchill, Manitoba.

RCMP say three people were in the canoe on the Churchill River when it capsized Wednesday at around 5:15 p.m.

Two local tour operators were able to pull an adult male, the girl, and a four-year-old boy from the river. All three were from Winnipeg.

The father and his two children were taken to hospital, where the five-year-old succumbed to her injuries.

Everyone in the canoe was wearing a lifejacket.

Police continue to investigate and warn the public to be cautious when boating.
