Newest Bisons Basketball Recruit Heading to Chile

University of Manitoba BisonsThe Manitoba Bisons have recruited a John Taylor Collegiate forward for the men’s basketball squad next season.

James Wagner recently graduated and will suit up with the Brown and Gold for the 2016-17 season. Until then, he will be accompanying head coach Kirby Schepp to Chile for the 2016 U18 men’s basketball national team July 19-23.

Wagner, 17, was selected to the 12-person national team. Schepp is also part of 2016 U18 coaching staff as an assistant coach and now in his seventh summer with national program.

“It is always an honour to represent our country overseas and get the opportunity to work with the best young talent in our country and compete against the best athletes in the world,” Schepp said.

Wagner is a Winnipeg native and played on the provincial teams in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He was ranked sixth in the annual Winnipeg Sun coaches’ poll in Grade 11 in 2015 and also had 45 points plus 15 rebounds from 20-24 shooting versus Sisler at North-South Southdown in 2015-16.
