People living in the Gimli area may experience power outages lasting up to three hours from July to mid-November.

Manitoba Hydro says it’s in the process of performing upgrades to its electrical distribution infrastructure.

Hydro is increasing its distribution system’s voltage from 8,000 volts to 25,000 volts. The upgrade will increase power stability, reducing voltage fluctuation and improving the operation of machinery and electronic equipment connected to the system.

The areas affected by these planned outages include:

• Town of Gimli — north of Centre Street to the end of Loni Beach, east of Highway 9 to the lake;
• Areas along P.R. 231, between Highway 9 and Highway 8, including the Vesturland subdivision

Outages will occur Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. as crews work on smaller blocks throughout the affected region.
