Two Winnipeg cousins are sharing a $1 million prize won last week by playing Lotto 6/49.

Arlene Culis and Vanessa Sofronio, who are also roommates, have been playing the lottery together for the last couple of months.

Their lucky day happened July 13 when they matched the numbers to the winning ticket.

“I checked the numbers online,” said Arlene. “I was surprised, shocked really. I just sat there, gawking at the screen for a little while.”

“I got teary-eyed,” added Vanessa. “I couldn’t believe that we won a million dollars. It still hasn’t sunk in, to be honest.”

Arlene plans to put some of the winnings away for her childrens’ education, while Vanessa wants to pay off her Jeep.

The ticket was purchased at the lottery kiosk inside Cityplace on St. Mary Avenue.
