WINNIPEG — A new contest app launched Thursday by the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association will get people looking at something other than Pokemon Go on their smartphones.
The Recycling Starts Here contest app is an augmented reality experience, meant to make would-be recyclers interact with the many bins around the city.
“The Recycling Starts Here contest app is part of our mission to find new and interesting ways to encourage Manitobans of all ages to recycle all their empty beverage containers,” said Ken Friesen, executive director of the CBCRA.
“We want the app to be a fun and interactive way for Manitobans to be rewarded for recycling during the summer months.”
The app will interact with four specially-marked Recycle Everywhere bins at The Forks, Old Market Square, Investors Group Field and the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
Those who load up the app while at the bins will be entered to win a grand prize trip for two to Churchill that includes a tour from Frontiers North Adventures.
Unmarked Recycle Everywhere bins across Manitoba will provide users with an educational augmented reality experience that gives them a chance at winning one of many instant prizes.
The app is a free download from startshere.ca.
