Shrek The Musical plays Rainbow Stage August 11-31. (RAINBOW STAGE / HANDOUT)
WINNIPEG — Rainbow Stage is debuting the beloved Shrek franchise as part of their latest production tonight.
Based on the popular DreamWorks Animation motion picture and book by William Steig, Shrek The Musical will hit the Manitoba stage for the first time.
“We have been dreaming of presenting a slimy, stinky, gassy musical for years,” said artistic director Ray Hogg.
“Shrek The Musical gives us the opportunity to do just that. We love that this show is just as bold, funny and shockingly appealing as the DreamWorks animated film is.”
Hogg says the production is perfect for kids, and presents many inclusion, diversity and self-acceptance themes throughout its storyline.
Carson Nattrass plays the role of Shrek to start his 10th season with the company, accompanied by a cast made up of both Rainbow Stage veterans and Winnipeg newcomers. The production is directed and choreographed by Hogg, and conducted by Anthony Bastianon.
Tickets are on sale now online, or by calling (204) 989-0888.
Shrek The Musical runs from August 11-31.
