Police Seeking Suspect After Backpack Explodes Outside Winnipeg Courthouse

Winnipeg police are looking for a man who left a backpack containing an explosive item outside the law courts building on Wednesday.

Shortly after 2 p.m., a backpack was placed near the steps of the building at York Avenue and Kennedy Street. It was lit on fire and then exploded as a sheriff’s officer attempted to extinguish it.

The officer, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Neither he or any bystanders nearby were hurt.

Police are looking for an aboriginal man in his mid-20s with some facial hair who was wearing sunglasses and a hat.
