Better late than never. Assiniboine Park Zoo is officially getting in on the Pokémon Go craze.
Launched in early July, Pokémon Go has taken over smartphones across the world and been downloaded more than 500 million times.
The zoo is inviting ‘trainers’ to “catch them all” on their property Saturday, September 10 for Pokémon Day. Visitors can receive a 15% discount if they pre-purchase their admission tickets online with the promotional code CATCHEMALL.
“We see Pokémon Go players throughout Assiniboine Park all the time, but not as many in the zoo,” said Janice Martin, curator of animal care and natural encounters at Assiniboine Park Zoo.
“We thought this would be a fun, new way for visitors to explore the zoo and see the animals — real and animated!”
The zoo has 30 Pokéstops and two gyms. This Saturday lures will be dropped every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The zoo asks those playing the game to respect the barriers and stick only to public pathways.
