WINNIPEG — There’s a new woodchuck in town.

The Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre has introduced a new member of its animal family to replace Winnipeg Willow, who passed away early this year.

Willow was known for predicting an early spring or a longer winter each Groundhog Day.

The PWRC has to name their new groundhog/woodchuck and has turned to the public for help. They have listed four possible names as voting options:

1. Wingi (Win-jhiy)
Willing/Protect/Guardian- N.A. aboriginal

2. Wyn (win)
Friend/Bright- N.A. aboriginal

3. Wicahpi (Wic-ah-pee)
Star- Sioux

4. Wapin (Waw-pin)
Dawn – N.A. aboriginal

The winning name will be announced at the PWRC Walk/Run for Wildlife on September 24.
