WINNIPEG — Wouldn’t artwork on your wall painted by a red panda be a great conversation starter?
The Assiniboine Park Zoo hopes so, as this weekend will be all about red pandas to raise awareness about research, education and conservation of the species.
One of the zoo’s residents, Xia, recently painted some artwork in advance of International Red Panda Day on Saturday.
“These art pieces are truly unique and we hope that they will inspire the community to care about red pandas,” said Janice Martin, Assiniboine Park zoo curator.
“We’re also excited because the proceeds support The Red Panda Network, an organization committed to the conservation of wild red pandas and their habitat.”
Guests visiting the zoo this weekend will be able to bid on two pieces of artwork that are on display. The auction will run throughout the entire month of September.
You can also “like” the zoo’s Facebook page and bid on a feature piece of artwork. The online auction opens Friday, September 16 at 9 a.m. and closes Sunday, September 18 at 10 p.m.
Proceeds from the artwork auction will go to the Red Panda Network.
