September 15th can only mean one thing. It’s time to go Christmas tree shopping. Oh, and if you’re a Costco member, you had this task wrapped up by mid-July.

The City of Winnipeg has put the call out for homeowners to submit their large spruce trees as contenders for this year’s annual Christmas tree display.

The tree will go up outside City Hall, decked out with thousands of mini LED lights for citizens to enjoy.

The criteria to submit your tree for consideration is:

  • Be located in the front yard of a property with direct access to the tree
  • Be 12 to 15 metres tall (approximately 40 to 50 feet)
  • Be fully symmetrical with a single trunk and no brown needles

Urban Forestry Branch staff select the tree that best meets the identified criteria.

The tree is removed at no cost to the homeowner. Those wishing to submit their tree can call or email 311@winnipeg.ca.
