The St. Andrews Lock and Dam is preparing to close for the season on October 14.
The dam’s control curtains will be raised on or soon after this date. Water levels on the Red and Assiniboine rivers around Winnipeg and north of Lockport will gradually be lowered over the next two to three weeks as the water is released.
The curtains will be completely lifted should winter conditions set in.
Officials are asking owners of vessels, barges and all property on the Red and Assiniboine rivers and their tributaries to protect their property.
The gates will remain closed until the spring.
