Power Lines - Hydro

Manitoba Hydro plans to implode connectors this weekend as work continues on a new distribution supply centre near Ile Des Chenes.

The centre is at 2302 Provincial Road 405 and includes a small amount of transmission line work. Hydro says completing this work requires connectors to be joined together by way of an implosion — a split-second detonation creating a flash and a bang similar to a large firework.

Detonations will occur on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Manitoba Hydro expects to detonate as many as 10 implode connectors over the two days to complete the transmission portion of the project.

“A public notification previously mailed out to local residents indicated the implosions were to be finished by October 14,” Hydro said in a release. “However, changes were required to accommodate work schedules.”

The implode connectors will be used at the south side of PR 405 approximately 750 meters east of Highway 59. Residents living in the area can expect to hear air horns and detonations.
