Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police called in the Clandestine Lab Unit on Saturday afternoon after officers discovered a white powdery substance while investigating an assault.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital in stable condition after being assaulted at an apartment in the 400 block of Maryland Street at around 4:30 p.m.

Police found the substance within the suite and took safety precautions due to the possible presence of illegal drugs. Officers wearing HazMat suits and other protective gear responded.

Police say they don’t believe a drug lab was operating but took the necessary precautions to protect their officers.

No further information has been released.
