Two Manitoba Women Thrown from Vehicle, One Killed

RCMP Logo VehicleOne women is in hospital and another died at the scene after a single-vehicle rollover near Birdtail Sioux First Nation, Manitoba on Wednesday.

RCMP say it happened at around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 355 about five kilometres west of Highway 83.

Police arrived on scene to find the vehicle in the north ditch after it had rolled several times while travelling westbound on Highway 355.

A 31-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, while a 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is listed in stable condition. Both victims were from Birdtail Sioux First Nation.

Police say it’s unclear who was driving the vehicle, but speed and alcohol are considered factors in the collision. Seatbelts were not in use at the time.

Virden RCMP and Dakota Ojibway Police Service both assisted with the initial investigation.
