Winnipeg’s two main taxi companies, Duffy’s and Unicity, will offer free rides to Remembrance Day services for veterans on Friday.

“As many veterans have aged, their transportation arrangements have become difficult,” said Michael Diamond, spokesperson for the Winnipeg Taxi Alliance.

“Several have given up their vehicles, while others have developed health-related mobility issues. Recognizing this, our members felt it would be appropriate to assist those vets who need a ride. Anyone who has served in the forces should be able to attend a Remembrance Day service if they wish to do so.”

Veterans will receive free round-trip taxi trips to and from their homes to a Remembrance Day service venue of their choosing within Winnipeg. Additional stops will not be covered under the offer.
