A guard tasked with watching over prisoners at the Norway House RCMP detachment is facing sexual assault charges.
The 21-year-old man, who was a contract employee of the Manitoba RCMP through the Commissionaires since December 2014, is accused of inappropriately touching two female prisoners through a cell door.
RCMP say the two incidents occurred separately within the past two months.
The Norway House man was arrested on Thursday and charges are pending.
“This is still very early in the investigation but we are asking anyone who may have been a victim to contact the Norway House RCMP,” said Superintendent Will Tewnion, North District Commander for the Manitoba RCMP.
“We acted immediately upon learning of the accusations and have arrested a suspect but it is important that our officers hear from anyone who may have information on this matter.”
The guard’s RCMP security clearance and building access have been revoked.
Police will release further information as it becomes available.
