Garden City Shopping Centre (RIOCAN)
WINNIPEG — Chances are you won’t recognize Garden City Shopping Centre once construction is complete.
The Winnipeg mall is undergoing a major renovation to include a new food court, lounge areas and an overall modern look and feel.
“The Garden City revitalization will infuse new life into the existing space,” said Rebecca Hyatt, property manager of RioCan’s Manitoba portfolio, the building’s owner.
The existing mall was originally built in the 1970s and purchased by RioCan and Bayfield in 2009.
“We look forward to creating a space that provides our customers and tenants with an elevated shopping experience.”
Construction, which began on Sunday, will occur mainly at night to have as little impact as possible on shoppers.
Other plans call for larger washrooms, additional comfort seating within the mall and a refresh to three of the exterior entrances.
The project is expected to be complete in the spring of 2018.
