WINNIPEG — Mayor Brian Bowman will pull off his best Clark Griswold impression tonight as the City Hall Christmas tree is lit.

North Kildonan couple Gail and Gerald Bordian donated their 40-foot Colorado spruce in October to light up the Main Street courtyard.

Crews have been busy decorating it with more than 9,000 multi-coloured LED lights.

“We moved here in 1989 and the tree was about 10 feet tall at that time,” Gail said of the tree.

“My son would climb up on a ladder to decorate it with Christmas lights. Over the years it’s grown too big so we decided to donate it to City Hall for their Christmas tree.”

Chaplain Mark Young with the Salvation Army and Toy Mountain will join Bowman, WFPS Chief John Lane and deputy Winnipeg police Chief Jeff Szyszkowski to flick the switch at 6 p.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service Choir will also perform.
