Investigation Launched After Off-Duty Police Officer Intervenes in Fight

Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba - IIUAn off-duty Winnipeg police officer who intervened in a fight last Friday night is the focus of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.

At around 5 p.m., the officer was driving near St. Mary’s Road and Marion Street when he noticed two males fighting and chasing each other in and out of oncoming traffic. The officer intervened in the scuffle, which resulted in one of the males suffering a fractured jaw. He was treated and released from hospital before being detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

The IIU is investigating due to a serious injury having occurred involving a law enforcement officer.
