The family-friendly Polar Bear Run is returning to Assiniboine Park for a second year.

The 10 km and 5 km runs, walk and skate will take place Sunday, February 26, 2017.

Proceeds from the run, presented by the Manitoba Moose, support the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s Polar Bear Rescue Team.

Organizers are hoping to leap the $15,000 raised last year with 250 participants for the 2017 edition of the run.

“Polar bear conservation and climate change awareness is something that we’re particularly passionate about and actively involved in here at Assiniboine Park Conservancy,” said Laura Cabak, APC marketing and communications specialist and run organizer.

“This event is a great way for the community to become involved in supporting this important cause and to help raise awareness about the effects of climate change on sea ice and polar bears.”

Registration is now open and can be done online or by visiting any local Running Room location. Early bird pricing is in effect until December 31, 2016.
