Raising the Roof for Thunderbird House

Thunderbird House, 815 Main Street

An upcoming fundraiser this week is aiming to help Thunderbird House restore its roof to the original condition of the building’s construction 16 years ago.

Architect Douglas Cardinal designed the iconic building’s copper roof to suggest a great thunderbird sheltering occupants under outspread wings.

Volunteers are coming together on Wednesday, December 21 to host a fundraising dinner and art auction.

Pinaysiwiigamic (Circle of Life Thunderbird House) doesn’t receive government grants or funding, so a damaged roof puts in operation in jeopardy.

Feast Café Bistro is providing dinner for the event, served between 4-6 p.m. The art auction begins at 7 p.m. and features works by Aaron Paquette, Daphne Odjig, Randy Ducharme, and others.

Tickets are $100 each. Those unable to attend can still make a donation through a GoFundMe page.
