WINNIPEG — The doors to Winnipeg’s newest school have opened to handle the bursting Waverley West population.
École South Pointe School at 615 Kirkbridge Drive will cater to early years to Grade 8 students and can accommodate up to 800 children.
It’s the 34th school for the Pembina Trails School Division and is the most innovative learning space within the division.
“I feel tremendous gratitude to be part of the journey that has brought us together in this modern, eco-friendly and innovative space,” said board chair Julie Fisher.
The $30 million facility is working towards Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
Officials say the school’s look and feel were inspired by Manitoba’s landscape and geology. Natural light is put to use with a floor to ceiling “live wall” at the heart of the school.
