Manitoba’s Online Organ, Tissue Donor Registry Turns Five

Organ DonationWINNIPEG — The online organ and tissue donor registry in Manitoba has turned five.

SignUpForLife.ca easily allows Manitobans to designate themselves as organ and tissue donors with a few clicks of the mouse. Since launching in 2012, more than 21,000 people have registered.

“The few minutes it takes to register online can make a lifetime of difference for a recipient,” said Ward Keith with Manitoba Public Insurance.

MPI and 300 independent insurance brokers have teamed up with the website to distribute reminder cards to residents to become donors. About 30,000 cards were distributed last summer and the second wave of cards are currently being handed out.

“By having the cards readily available, it’s hoped this will encourage more Manitobans to consider becoming a donor and truly making a difference.”

It takes about two minutes to register and become a donor. The only information required is name, birthdate and nine-digital personal health information number from a Manitoba health card.
