WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government has confirmed the latest hire to its communications team.
Former sportscaster and TV host Leah Hextall has recently returned to Winnipeg to begin the role of creative communications specialist for the Tories effective November 13.
Hextall, a Brandon native, was most recently working at ESPN, with earlier stints at Rogers Sportsnet and NESN. Before then, she was a longtime sports anchor and reporter at CTV Winnipeg.
Hextall played a public role in the Manitoba Progressive Conservative party’s annual general meeting on November 4, where she sat down for a fireside chat to interview Premier Brian Pallister. She also lobbed the premier questions from behind the camera in a recent Facebook video following his injury during a hiking trip in New Mexico earlier this month.
Hextall has still been keeping tabs on the Winnipeg Jets since returning to the city, recently sitting down with Jets’ chairman Mark Chipman in an article for The Athletic.
According to a cabinet order released on Wednesday, Hextall will earn an annual salary of $77,695.
