Winnipeg police have charged a man after one of their own officers was stabbed in the arm leaving work Friday morning.
The officer was walking to his vehicle at around 3:30 a.m. near Graham Avenue and Garry Street when he saw a man peering into his window. He identified himself as an officer and attempted to grab the suspect.
The suspect took out a knife and stabbed the officer before trying to flee the scene. The officer again identified himself as a member of the police service and called 911 for help.
Officers soon arrested the suspect a short distance away. The officer was treated in hospital and released.
Corey Clifford Whitford, 45, of Winnipeg faces numerous charges.
He remains in custody.
