A 27-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after a string of robberies over the weekend that indirectly sent a police officer to hospital.
Winnipeg police say Cory Roger Legault robbed a bank in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue on Saturday morning.
Five minutes later, the same suspect is said to have tried robbing a restaurant and liquor store in the same block, but was unsuccessful. A third attempt was made at a restaurant in the 400 block of William Avenue a short time later, but also wasn’t successful.
Police caught up with Legault on William Avenue at around 10:45 a.m. with the help of the canine unit.
While investigating, an officer was struck by an uninvolved vehicle at the intersection of William Avenue and Harriet Street. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released. The service dog wasn’t injured.
The suspect remains in custody.
