WINNIPEG — Two orphaned polar bears from northern Manitoba have a new home at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

The cubs, one male and one female, come from Churchill and were brought to the city Tuesday evening under the care of zoo officials.

The bears will be housed in the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and will undergo a standard 30-day quarantine period.

The zoo now has 11 polar bears in its care, with seven currently in the Journey to Churchill exhibit.

An announcement will be made at a later date when the cubs are ready to be introduced to the public.
