A Winnipeg man barricaded himself inside a local business last Sunday, where police say he ingested drugs, set a fire and stabbed another man multiple times.
Officers were called to the 400 block of Notre Dame Avenue at around 6:35 a.m. and say the suspect was behaving violently inside a room with another man.
Police say the suspect had ingested drugs earlier in the day before arriving at the business and confronting the victim and ingesting more. He damaged the room and contents before a small fire erupted. Staff were able to extinguish it through a broken window.
The suspect is said to have then turned to the victim and choked him before slashing his throat and stabbing him several times in the upper body.
Police arrived to find the suspect covered in blood and demanded he drop the knife. He complied and was taken to hospital. He was released on Wednesday and placed in police custody.
Brian Joseph Steve Pensak, 32, faces a list of charges, including attempted murder and arson. He remains in custody.
