Fight Over $10 Sparks Rooming House Blaze

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police say a rooming house fire in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue on Friday was the result of a fight over $10.

Flames broke out at around 7:20 a.m. and destroyed the entire residence.

Police say three people inside the suite were consuming alcohol and using methamphetamine when a fight over a $10 payment transpired. One of the people was removed from the suite, but broke a large window and returned. Police say the suspect threatened retaliation and deliberately set a fire.

All tenants were able to safely make it out with injuries.

Roughly 12 hours later, a 17-year-old girl was located at a hotel in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue.

She has been charged with five counts of arson with disregard for human life, uttering threats, break and enter, arson causing damage to property and two counts of failing to comply with a sentence.

The teen remains in custody.
