A stolen Jeep Cherokee that took Winnipeg police on a high-speed chase on Friday ended up in Starbuck, Manitoba.

Officers attempted to pull over the SUV at around 12:45 a.m. in the area of Dale Boulevard and Roblin Boulevard when it took off, reaching speeds above 150 km/h.

Air 1 was called in and followed the vehicle as it recklessly travelled both south and west of Winnipeg. It eventually stopped and tried to park at the rear of a residence in Starbuck — about 40 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

Two suspects were arrested after a brief foot pursuit. One of the suspects was found with 73 grams of marijuana and was the subject of two outstanding warrants.

Police searched the vehicle and found numerous break-in tools, including bolt cutters, pliers, and wire cutters.

The Jeep was stolen December 19 from a dealership in the 300 block of Pembina Highway and was driving with phony plates from another vehicle, originally stolen on December 11 in the 100 block of Marlow Court. It was later recovered.

Chadwick Joel Fitzgerald, 33, and Daniel Joseph Tarnowski, 57, both from Starbuck, face numerous charges.

Police have also laid additional charges in relation to a theft at a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue on April 25, and a break and enter to a business in the 900 block of Waverley Street on January 31, 2016.

Both men remain in custody.
