RCMP in Manitoba have laid 117 drunk driving charges against motorists during their annual holiday checkstop program.
Mounties pulled over 8,333 vehicles during 176 checkstops from early December to January 1.
Police also issued 51 alcohol-related roadside driving suspensions, doled out 2,153 tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for such offences as speeding or lack of seatbelt use, and 130 warnings for other offences.
Officers also issued 45 tickets under the Liquor and Gaming Control Act, and 31 other criminal code driving offences.
There was one traffic-related fatality during the program — down from six during the 2016-17 checkstop program.
