Taxi Passenger Arrested as Police Spot Rifle in Backseat

Winnipeg Police CrestA Winnipeg taxicab passenger is facing charges after police pulled over a cab early Wednesday morning.

Officers stopped the cab at around 12:10 a.m. in the area of Salter Street and Dufferin Avenue.

Police spotted a man in the backseat with a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle protruding from a bag. He was arrested and found to also be in possession of bear spray and three rounds of ammunition.

Derrick Scott Coutu, 38 of Winnipeg, faces several weapons charges.
