Suspect Broke His Leg During Jump to Avoid Ex-Girlfriend: IIU

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — A man who was trying to avoid being attacked by his ex-girlfriend was responsible for breaking his own leg, investigators have determined.

The man was subject to arrest by Winnipeg police in August 2017 when they were called to a domestic assault at a suite on Balmoral Street.

The Independent Investigation Unit found the man jumped from a third-storey window prior to police arriving and broke his leg when he hit the ground. The IIU was called in to investigate the incident and the man told them he didn’t have contact with officers on scene until after his jump.
