Manitoba RCMP say a 42-year-old Portage la Prairie woman was killed Thursday afternoon when the vehicle she was driving hit a car from behind.
The woman got out of her van to check on her four-year-old son when she was hit by a southbound pickup truck. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The woman’s son wasn’t injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The car the woman originally hit ended up in the west side ditch approximately two kilometres north of Southport, Manitoba. The 70-year-old Portage la Prairie man driving the car, along with his 68-year-old female passenger, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The 67-year-old Portage la Prairie woman driving the pickup truck wasn’t injured.
Both PR 240 and PR 331 were closed for approximately 14 hours as police investigated.
