A retired Winnipeg police officer held a robbery suspect for uniformed members on Thursday after a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue was robbed.
Police say the suspect entered the business at around 3 p.m. and demanded money while making mention of having weapons. He made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
He then entered a running vehicle and told the driver he had a weapon and to drive him to another location. The driver was able to flee the vehicle safely with its keys. That’s when the retired police officer in the area apprehended the suspect
The stolen cash was recovered and no injuries were reported.
Darren Rodney Remple, 51, of Winnipeg, has been charged with two counts of robbery. He remains in custody.
