WINNIPEG — A weekend curling tournament on the frozen Red and Assiniboine rivers near The Forks raised $10,982 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The 2018 Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel crowned team champions “I Swept With Your Wife,” led by Skip Brent Farguson with third Jack Lavalle, second Glen Henderson and lead Brian Melville.

The champs were responsible for bringing in $1,092 to add to the overall total, which has raised $100,000 since the tournament’s inception in 2002.

“All money raised is donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Margaret Morton’s name, this years’ honouree,” said Michael Thompson, director, Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel. “We are proud to recognize Margaret as she is a very strong, determined woman and a long time employee of Frontier Toyota, one of our sponsors.”

Curlers, both represented locally and from out of the province/country, persevered through the -25°C temperatures and -40 windchill that hovered over the tournament during an extreme cold warning on Friday and Saturday.

The 2019 Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel will run again the first full weekend in February.
