A 29-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after police say he hopped into a woman’s vehicle while she was in a drive-thru Saturday night.
The victim was in the 2400 block of Pembina Highway at around 9:10 p.m. when a man forced his way in. The driver was able to safely escape through the passenger side before the suspect drove away.
Police say he drove south on Pembina Highway, driving onto the median and over the sidewalk before striking a street lamp. He eventually hit a concrete wall of the south Perimeter Highway overpass and ditched the vehicle.
Police caught up with him on nearby Cloutier Drive and took him into custody. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, where he became violent and injured a female nurse.
Kelsey Amil Courchene, 29, faces drunk driving charges, assault, resisting arrest, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and driving while disqualified. He remains in custody.
