Possible Vertebrae Fracture Prompts Police Watchdog to Investigate

Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba - IIUWINNIPEG — Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit has been called in to look into the takedown of a man police say wouldn’t drop his weapons.

The IIU was notified February 2 after police had to use force to get a 40-year-old suspect to comply with their orders on Sherbrook Street.

During the confrontation, the man’s vertebrae was possibly fractured. He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No further details will be released until the investigation is complete.
