Road conditions appear to have been a factor a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Highway 10 south of Minnedosa on Wednesday evening, RCMP say.
Two officers were travelling in a marked RCMP vehicle at around 5:25 p.m. when a small SUV headed towards them lost control and rolled into the southbound lane.
The SUV first hit a vehicle directly in front of the RCMP cruiser before striking the police vehicle.
A 67-year-old woman and 51-year-old woman — both from the RM of Glenella-Lansdowne — were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 56-year-old woman from Waywayseecappo, Manitoba was one of four people in the other vehicle and also died. Three others were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP say a total of six vehicles were involved in the crash. Three other people were treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Neither RCMP officer was seriously injured.
The highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
