A special exhibit marking Black History Month is on display at the Manitoba legislature beginning today.

On the Road North: Black Canada and the Journey to Freedom is a 10-panel display that highlights the heroes, honoured places and momentous events in Canada that helped to end slavery.

From February 22-28, the public can visit the Manitoba Legislative Building and view the exhibit on the main floor. There is no cost to visit the display.

With tales of idealism, courage and leadership of black Canadians in the 18th century, the exhibit also acknowledges modern leaders and role models such as former governor general Michaëlle Jean.

The exhibit is suitable for children aged 10 and up.
