Murder Charges Laid in Death of Senior in the Maples

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — Charges have been laid in the death of an elderly man in the Maples earlier this year.

Hossein Lotfi, 77, was found deceased in his home in the 100 block of Manila Road January 9 after police conducted a traffic stop in St. Vital.

Police say Lotfi had been socializing with two people in his home January 5, when a physical confrontation broke out. He was left incapacitated while the two suspects fled in his vehicle.

The following night, the suspects and three other people returned to Lotfi’s home and stole a number of items before setting fire to the residence.

Lotfi’s identification, bank and credit cards were stolen and used in and around Winnipeg the following days.

Police have now charged Yvonne Littlejohn, 36, and Myra Dawn Bird, 35, with second-degree murder and theft. Bird also faces charges of arson and fraud.

Charles Clayton Shabaquay, 43, and a 17-year-old Winnipeg boy face arson and theft charges. They both remain in custody.

A 15-year-old Winnipeg girl has been charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000. She was released on a promise to appear.
