WINNIPEG — Eager drivers will gather today to find out if they are one of 60 successful lottery applicants to attain a taxi license from the city.
MNP LLC is conducting the lottery at Canad Inns Polo Park from 1-4 p.m.
There were 3,200 applications for the lottery, which aims to put more taxis on the streets with the pending arrival of ride-sharing services in Winnipeg.
Should any of the first 60 applicants drawn not fulfill the requirements for a taxi license by April 30, additional names will be drawn. Applicants don’t need to attend the lottery in-person, and will also be contacted by the Winnipeg Parking Authority if they’re successful.
The list of all applicants, and their place on the lottery list, will be posted on the city’s website after the lottery process has concluded.
