Brandon police are warning of counterfeit bills being passed along to businesses in recent days.
The incidents involve fraudulent $100 bills with foreign languages stamped on them. Police say the bills were designed as a training aid, but fraudsters have cut out the language stamp and replaced it with security features from lower denomination bills.
Police say in most cases, a small item is purchased with the counterfeit currency and the suspect receives change back in legitimate currency.
Retailers are being asked to check all bills being accepting them. Those that suspect a counterfeit note during a transaction are asked to contact Brandon police.
