Man Charged After Girlfriend Dies in Northern Manitoba Fire

RCMP Logo VehicleA man is facing manslaughter charges after his girlfriend died in a house fire in Thicket Portage, Manitoba last weekend.

Thompson RCMP were responding to an assault call March 2 when they were told the residence was also on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters had located a 21-year-old woman inside the home. She was taken to the local nursing station and pronounced deceased.

A 22-year-old community man, who came to help get everyone out, suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.

The 23-year-old resident of the home, Travis Munroe, was also treated for fire-related injuries. Police say Munroe was in a relationship with the woman and has also since been charged with arson with disregard for human life, two counts of assault and assault causing bodily harm.

He remains in custody.
