U of M Students Camp Out to Fight Homelessness

March 11, 2018 8:21 AM | News

5 Days for the HomelessSix University of Manitoba business students are trading in their beds for a tent and some cardboard this week in an effort to raise funds and awareness for homeless Winnipeggers.

The annual 5 Days for the Homeless campaign consists of participants sleeping outside of the U of M’s University Centre from March 12-16.

While outside, they won’t be able to shower or carry cash or identification, and will only be allowed to eat food that has been donated to them. They will also have to still attend all of their classes.

It’s the 10th consecutive year U of M students have been participating in the campaign, which helps raise funds for Resource Assistance for Youth (RaY).

The event kicks off with the Fivehole for Five Days Street Hockey Tournament today at 10 a.m. on the U of M campus, and the official opening ceremonies Monday at 12 p.m. at the Asper School of Business.
