A man surrendered Thursday morning after barricading himself inside a home near Deacon’s Corner east of Winnipeg.
Manitoba RCMP were called at around 1:45 a.m. by a 32-year-old woman who said her 60-year-old common-law partner was threatening to burn down a property near Highway 1 and Provincial Road 207.
She also told officers he had made threats to harm police if they responded.
The woman was able to safely call from another residence and told police the man was burning her personal belongings and had numerous firearms.
The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team headed to the scene and took the man into custody when he surrendered at around 7:40 a.m.
The man remains in custody and faces firearm-related charges, as well as arson offences and uttering threats.
No injuries were reported and RCMP say there wasn’t a threat to public safety during the ordeal.
